Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.
Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Water Institute at the University of Alabama seeks applications for a postdoctoral position for a project with respect to water modeling and forecasting.
The postdoctoral researcher will be working in a multidisciplinary team environment to advance applications of artificial intelligence to water modeling and forecasting, in particular in the areas of multi-level water observation systems, hyper-resolution modeling of urban flooding, quantifying uncertainty and improving predictability of floods and droughts, reservoir operations, and intelligent water supply and stormwater infrastructure. Interest and experience translating water research to operational applications and impact is essential.
Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the Alabama Water Institute and/or Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department. The department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, applied hydrology or closely related field is required.

Skills and Knowledge: Candidates will have strong abilities with one or more of the following: hydrologic modeling, geospatial sciences, computer programming, machine learning, applied statistics, system dynamics modeling, satellite data processing, and wireless sensor networks.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will have a high level of interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with academics, scientists, students and industry. Further, candidates will demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility, initiative, and excellent communication skills.
