Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in computer science, physical sciences, applied mathematics or related field. Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in Unix/Linux environments and Bash scripting. Experience with imperative and object-oriented programming languages, Python and Fortran. Experience with statistical data analysis, neural networks and/or machine learning techniques. Experience managing Git repositories. Experience with scientific software packages such as MATLAB and IDL. Experience with analysis and visualization techniques. Experience in the collaborative development of open-source software.
Brief Description of Duties:
The radar science group ( radarscience.weebly.com ) at Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a Programmer to support the development and maintenance of a software infrastructure for data acquisition, management and analysis which will support the scientific applications of our research group. The Programmer will participate in the development and application of user software for big scientific data acquisition from ground-based and space-based instruments and networks, management, reduction, analysis, and visualization. The successful candidate will contribute to a team that enables research in several emerging areas of remote sensing including cm- and mm-wavelength radars, lidars, surface cameras, satellite observations. They will have the ability to employ sound software engineering techniques, self-motivation and ability to work in a team environment.
Responsibilities will include:
- Under direct supervision, assist in the design, development, and maintenance of reliable software for data acquisition, management and analysis.
- Assist with the maintenance of the radar group data-base, post-processing, archiving and visualization system.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and publications.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
