The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in Geography, GIS or related fields at the time of appointment and must demonstrate the ability to teach upper-level geospatial courses through distance learning (preferred) and on-campus platforms. The candidate will be expected to teach courses, such as Principles of GIS, Advanced GIS, GIS Programming, Web GIS, Remote Sensing, and courses developed within their area of specialty. Candidate should have strong teaching skills, ideally with experience in distance education, knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System, and be able to communicate to a diverse student population. The preferred candidate should be able to produce quality instructional videos and develop geospatial learning experiences, such as laboratory exercises for the distance learning environment as well as on campus. The clinical professor will work closely with distance learning masters level students in our Environmental Geosciences and Applied Meteorology Programs, as well as teach students who are enrolled in the Geospatial and Remote Sensing Technologies Certificate Program.
The Department of Geosciences currently has 19 tenure-track faculty, 5 clinical faculty and 5 full-time instructors, and offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Within Geosciences there are 4 areas of emphasis: Professional Geology, Environmental Geosciences, Geography/Geospatial Sciences, and Meteorology/Climatology. The Department was recently named a Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaches and develops undergraduate and graduate courses for both distance and on-campus student learners. Serves on graduate student committees. Committee assignments are often elective. Performs service activities and serves on various departmental, college, and university committees. Such responsibilities will be assigned by the Department Head or a designated representative.
