The Quantitative Ecology and Spatial Technologies (QuEST) Laboratory and Geosystems Research Institute (GRI) seeks to hire a Biomathematician/Biostatistician to develop novel mathematical and statistical tools for describing spatial phenomena using high-resolution remote sensing and biotelemetry datasets, coupled to applications in high-performance computing to facilitate rapid data analysis. This is a 2-year position (with possibility of extension pending additional extramural funding).
* Identify current gaps in mathematical tools for applications to animal movement and dispersal, spatial epidemiology, species distributions, and biological invasions * Develop new mathematical and statistical tools to address identified gaps * Develop subsequent applications of tools using high-performance computing * Collaborate with data scientists and graduate students to inform data curation procedures for application of spatial data to new tools * Participate in oral and written communications as needed to interface with participating scientists and stakeholders * Disseminate knowledge in primary literature (expected min. 2 publications) and at conferences and meetings * Participate in QuEST Lab meetings and mentorship activities * Other duties as assigned
* Must possess a Ph.D. or have defended a dissertation (no ABD) * Background in mathematical biology (in particular partial differential equations and integro-difference equations) and computer programming * Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ph.D. in mathematics, biomathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, quantitative ecology, or other related fields * General background in spatial ecology, animal movement, biological invasions, species distribution models, and/or spatial epidemiology * Demonstrated history of publication and collaboration * Ability to work independently and as part of a trans-disciplinary team
