Detailed Job Description The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing (DIRS) Laboratory in the Center for Imaging Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is seeking candidates to fill the role of Research Scientist in Remote Sensing. Suitable candidates will potentially support multiple research projects within the Laboratory and work closely with students, staff, and sponsors to achieve high quality research outcomes. The candidate will: assist in preparation and authoring of reports, papers, presentations, new proposals, etc., collaborating on some, and present papers at technical meetings. Strong candidates will have a background in algorithm development and assessment, RF signal propagation, design and collection, SAR image formation, moving target indication (MTI), advanced signal and image processing algorithms, and simulation and modeling to support the responsibilities listed below. The ideal candidate for this position would: (a) have knowledge of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Radio Frequency (RF) signal processing, experience in design and implementation of SAR algorithms and signal processing and strong mathematical skills, including prior experience in one or more common programming languages such as Python, C++, MATLAB, and ENVI / IDL; (b) have a solid background in remote sensing, understand active imaging (RADAR/SAR) and the unique issues encountered from sUAS and satellite platforms; (c) be adept at the collection and management of image data; and (d) be able to develop sound experimental designs and collection campaigns pertaining to SAR sUAS. Candidate will provide leadership for and support to DIRS programs focused on the development and application of active remote sensing (primarily SAR) and geospatial analysis to solve challenging research problems in sponsored research programs.

Ability and willingness to obtain an FAA certification as a drone pilot is desirable.
A record of refereed scholarly publication in physics, mathematics, engineering, or applications related to remote sensing systems and data analysis
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree and at least three years of directly related research/engineering experience is required.
The successful applicant must be a U.S. Person as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), or have the ability to obtain the appropriate license to comply with the US Export Control Laws.

Masters or PhD strongly preferred.
