United Cooperative Services has an open position for Engineering Services Technician I- Broadband. This non-exempt position starts at $20.52 per hour. United Cooperative Services is an equal opportunity employer and institution.
The Engineering Services Technician I- Broadband will prepare and maintain engineering database for mapping and electrical connectivity as required by the Cooperative. Prepare and maintain computerized mapping, drafting and other graphical work as required by the Cooperative. Assist with GIS database related work as necessary.
Individual must have knowledge of and be proficient in the operation of environmental systems research institute (ESRI)-based engineering models maintained in the fiber optic mapping and planning environment.
Must be proficient in the creation and maintenance of a detailed fiber engineering model from the substation to the consumer fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). Must enter work orders, map changes and corrections to maintain the model’s connectivity and perform circuit diagnostics to locate and correct any errors found in the database. Use necessary departmental resources; Member Service, Engineering and Operations to verify changes in the database.
Compile and perform necessary queries of the engineering model and extract information as required to databases for data required by other departments of the Cooperative to perform their duties.
Individual must have knowledge of and be proficient in the operation of the outage management system (OMS). Ability to extract outage data and management said data from the OMS database for the use in outage reporting.
Individual must have knowledge of and be proficient in the operation of the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems (notification,) as well as train necessary dispatchers and MSRs in the use of the necessary software and/or procedures. Ability to extract data and management of said data from the IVR database for the use in reporting and analysis.
Individual must be proficient in the use of the latest version of Geospatial Information System (GIS)/Computer-Aid Design/Drafting software and be capable of editing, plotting, importing/exporting files for the Cooperative maps. Will be required to compile and execute script files, configure software for the use with printers/plotters, query maps for data required for departmental use and export in the proper format. Ability to transfer/plot maps from the fiber optic planning software.
Individual must be proficient in the use of necessary software/hardware for the collection and storing of GIS data. Ability to use material management and consume information software (i.e. Daffron), AutoCAD, electrical engineering modeling software (i.e. Milsoft), Access, SQL Server to run queries, compare files, provide data for storage and use of GIS data for the other departments of the Cooperative to perform their required duties.
Individual must be capable of implementing routines and exercising them to update viewing software.
Individual must demonstrate the ability to update and provide benchmarking for Engineering Services Department.
Adhere to encourage United’s safety policies and procedures and offer recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

The Engineering Services Technician I shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.
Employee: Interacts with other Cooperative employees to verify and/or obtain data necessary in the maintenance of engineering/mapping database.
Vendors: Interact with vendors to deal with software support issues and maintain an inventory of supplies for the plotting of cooperative maps as required.
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent required. Preference to have knowledge of the connectivity required in maintaining fiber distribution systems.
Equipment Operated: Position utilizes personal computers and computer terminals. Position also requires operating GPS data collection devices and equipment. This position requires Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Abilities and Skills: Must be computer literate and have the ability to operate in the Microsoft Windows environment as well as basic computer skills necessary to operate all standard office equipment on a regular basis. The individual must have basic knowledge of electricity and connectivity. Individual must be able to follow detailed instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form as well as perform simple math calculations and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. This position requires the ability to write routine progress reports and correspondence using Microsoft Office Software.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation, required to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and on occasion lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in both office and outside environments with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts with occasional overtime.
