The Department of Geography at the University of Connecticut, Storrs seeks an outstanding scholar to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Geographic Information Science (GIScience) with an expected start date of August 2020. We are seeking a spatial data scientist with interests in, but not limited to, big data analytics, Geovisualization, spatial analytics and modeling, or remote sensing. We particularly welcome applicants who are able to strengthen the department's existing research cluster of Geographic Information Science and Systems and complement other clusters of Spatial Analysis of Social Issues, Earth System Science, and Human-Environment Dynamics by critically applying GIScience methods to fields of study such as climate, public health, urban informatics, transportation, and risk assessment. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to teach intermediate and advanced courses in GIScience such as Geovisualization, Cartography, WebGIS, GIS programming, GIS applications, data mining, big data analytics, and other courses in their area of specialization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a strong program of research and publication in GIScience and to develop a robust, externally funded research portfolio that advances the candidate's research as well as the mission of the Department of Geography. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in GIScience and take an active role in bringing currency and creativity to the development of the curriculum. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, participate in outreach activities, and contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Geography or a related discipline by August 23, 2020; a proven record of excellence in teaching; demonstrated potential in establishing a successful research and scholarship program related to spatial data science; and a deep commitment to promoting diversity in academic and research programs.

This is a full-time 9-month tenure-track position. The successful candidate's appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary is competitive based on experience and qualifications.
