Interested in the interdisciplinary field of Marine Science? Are you a Biology, Environmental or Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Mathematics or Computer Science major?
Take advantage of the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience while exploring the exciting interdisciplinary field of marine science research!
Oregon State University is offering summer marine science internships to 20+ college students through its Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) in Newport and College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) in Corvallis. Students will have the opportunity to work with faculty mentors on research projects that advance the knowledge and understanding of marine, coastal and estuarine environments. Get involved in research from estuaries to the deep sea. The 10-week program matches qualified students with faculty mentors representing a wide range of marine science research interests, including: Cetacean/Fisheries Conservation Genetics; Marine Aquaculture; Physical, Chemical and Biological Oceanography; Marine Geology; Coastal Ecology; Marine Renewable Energy; Marine Biological Invasions; Satellite Remote Sensing and many others.
The Research Experience for Undergraduates program runs from June 15 to August 22, 2020 at both the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) in Newport and at the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences in Corvallis. Out of state travel, on-site housing at OSU or HMSC and a stipend ($6240) are provided.
One of the largest marine labs in the Pacific Northwest, HMSC in Newport is a thriving research community where students interact with university faculty and government agency scientists and have easy access to the “living laboratory” of Oregon’s coastal estuaries and the ocean. On the OSU main campus in Corvallis, CEOAS trains the next generation of biological, chemical, geological and physical oceanographers, offering opportunities for interdisciplinary research in world-class labs and facilities.
Students from underrepresented groups and institutions with limited research opportunities (like Community Colleges) are especially encouraged to apply.
