A research associate, postdoctoral, position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will work in the area of hydrology and water resources using global land surface models such as the latest version of the Community Land Model (CLM5), and potentially climate models such as CESM. Specific tasks include development of schemes to simulate the dynamics of human-water-climate interactions in these models and conduct numerical experiments to examine the historical changes and assess future climate impacts over continental to global scales, with an emphasis on irrigation and groundwater.
Doctorate -Civil & Environmental Engineering or rel
A Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering or related field on or by the start of employment.
Experience in executing numerical experiments using large-scale land surface model, preferably CLM5 (a recent publication to demonstrate this is a plus).
Excellent programming skills in Fortran and Python and good command in using Linux and parallel computing using high performance computing systems, and ability to develop new codes and integrate those into the existing modeling systems.
Experience in using satellite data such as those from SMAP, GRACE, and MODIS satellites (a recent publication to demonstrate this is a plus).
Experience in using advanced statistical and data assimilation techniques to analyze large data on future climate and hydrologic projections (a recent publication to demonstrate this is a plus).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Research expertise in hydrological modeling, satellite remote sensing in hydrology, human-nature interactions, and Food-Energy-Water Nexus.
Strong interest in interdisciplinary research.
Ability to conduct research independently and as a part of a large group.
