Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Analyst for SA NB- Student Affairs Research and Assessment. This office provides direction and assistance to the over 20 departments across the Division of Student Affairs regarding their assessment and evaluation needs. This new position meets the growing demand, value, and complexity around student affairs assessment.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for developing appropriate statistical models to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, including querying, extracting, and merging a variety of complex data systems.
Visualizes data, communicates it to relevant stakeholders, and helps facilitate its utility for decision-making, resource allocation and delivery, program development, and strategic planning.
Provides consultation and advising to members of the Assessment Learning Community in the analysis, interpretation, and action planning related to data on the department/unit level.
Communicates and interprets data to a diverse audience with varying levels of data acumen, and demonstrates experience with assessment and evaluation in a higher education setting.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in statistics, psychology, sociology, mathematics, computer science, economics, education, or related field.
A minimum of two years of experience in higher education, research, or assessment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Relevant professional research experience working in a technical environment, advanced level skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent analytical, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Must have knowledge of research methodology and the assessment cycle, educational research design, accountability issues and student learning outcomes
Must demonstrate knowledge/experience in research design, program evaluation and/or assessment of student learning, and have experience in synthesizing and interpreting complex data and reporting findings to a variety of constituents in both oral and written communication
Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, proactive, creative thinker and problem-solver, possess the ability to interpret and communicate statistical processes and findings to a diverse audience with varying levels of data acumen
Strong analytical skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
Understanding of student and staff development within the context of Student Affairs work.
High accountability for research ethics, as he/she/they will be handling of confidential and sensitive information.
Highly detail-oriented, a skilled problem-solver and analyst, fluent in a variety of platforms used to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, understands and can apply of theories and terminology related to student development and campus climate, has high competence handling complex data management tasks, possesses
Experience with data management (data gathering or storage) or statistical packages such as SPSS
Experience with using survey software and reporting platforms such as Campus Labs and Qualtrics
Master's Degree in college student affairs, higher education administration, social sciences, statistics, or other related field.
Experience with graphic design and data visualization software such as Microsoft PowerBI and Geospatial mapping technology
Experience with creating data visualizations
Knowledge of student development and higher education literature
Experience with assessment design and evaluation
An understanding of the issues of higher education and the ability to develop recommendations within a contextual understanding of institutional needs
Creativity and perception to create meaningful displays of information that communicate complicated data to audiences of diverse backgrounds
Proficiency in appropriate analysis software and languages such as Excel, SPSS, R, SAS, Python, Atlas, nVivo, and Power BI
Knowledge of manipulating data sets including querying, integration, and data cleaning
Knowledge of statistical techniques and methodologies (descriptive, correlational, and inferential)
Experience working with relational databases and on-line survey and assessment tools (e.g., Campus Labs)
The Data Analyst must possess advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite and operate in other campus database systems.
Expected to use the Internet to complete work responsibilities
Expected to use and maintain office equipment including but not limited to phones, copier, fax, and scanner
Variety of data extraction, manipulation, compilation, and analysis programs
