The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Coastal Plains Soil, Water and Plant Research Center in Florence, South Carolina seeks a permanent, full time, Research Agronomist, GS-0471-12 ($74,596 to $96,978 per year) to become a member of a multidisciplinary research team addressing the mission of the Center to conduct research and transfer solutions to improve agricultural production, protect the environment and enhance the conservation of natural resources - all within an efficient and profitable agriculture. The incumbent’s research responsibilities includes improving irrigation and/or fertilizer use efficiency through the development and evaluation of algorithms when using remote sensing technologies; improving cotton germplasm selection protocols by developing high-throughput phenotyping methodologies for humid regions; developing crop management and rotation strategies for cotton production systems that improve soil, water, and nutrient resources efficiency; and developing crop management criteria for non-traditional fertilizer sources, particularly those byproducts derived from animal waste treatment technologies.
