Description: The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas invite applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position (55% research, 20% teaching, 25% extension) in the area of precision agriculture and crop remote sensing/modeling.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will provide exemplary leadership in establishing innovative research, extension, and teaching programs on applied precision agriculture. The individual will also be expected to collaborate with research and teaching efforts in AECT, BAEG, and other departments. The individual will develop and teach an undergraduate class related to the practical use of precision agriculture and remote sensing for crop management and improvement, a course in cotton production, and a graduate-level course in an area of interest/expertise. The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive, extramurally-funded research program integrating GPS information with crop-management and remote-sensing information as well as direct student research and training in these areas. Remote-sensing technology may include ground-based measurements and aerial platforms (e.g., UASs). The applied research program will focus on agronomic precision agriculture such as precision nutrient management, plant responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, herbicide injury, irrigation, variable rate seeding, pest management, and high-throughput phenotypic characterization. The successful candidate will proactively lead continuing efforts to build strong, multidisciplinary research and extension programs in applied research and provide leadership in teaching programs.
Qualifications: PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crop Physiology, or a closely-related discipline with demonstrated expertise in precision agriculture and remote sensing. The candidate must have a strong record of academic achievement including peer-reviewed publications, extension programming, demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding, an interest in teaching, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
