Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at North Carolina State University (NC State) intends to fill a tenure-track faculty position in environmental volcanology/petrology.
Desirable expertise includes research employing observation, experiments, and modeling to investigate the origin of magmatism in different tectonic settings, the role of volatiles in volcanic eruptions and short and/or long-term climate change and geohazards. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2020. Hiring will be at the Assistant Professor level.
Course offerings may include undergraduate or graduate classes in mineralogy, hard rock petrology, numerical methods and modeling, geohazards, geothermal energy or other classes commensurate with the candidate's interest and expertise.
Opportunities exist for disciplinary and interdisciplinary interactions with a wide range of scientists at NC State. Affiliated with the College of Sciences, MEAS is one of the largest interdisciplinary geoscience departments in the nation.
