Assistant Professor - Earth Science

Worcester State University, Department of Earth, Environment, and Physics, seeks a broadly trained earth scientist for a tenure track position to begin Fall 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's Environmental Science and Geography curricula by developing upper level courses in his/her area of expertise. Desirable areas may include coastal, fluvial, or lacustrine processes and environments (contemporary or Quaternary), hydrology, or hydrogeology. Applicants should demonstrate: potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduates; active engagement in research and scholarship; a commitment to public higher education; enthusiasm for developing the curriculum and growing the department. Other desirable qualities include an enthusiasm for developing innovative an freshman seminar class, teaching a senior seminar, an ability to integrate GIScience and/or remote sensing into teaching and research, and experience in developing field courses. The successful candidate will help shape a small, dynamic department dedicated to offering a quality liberal arts education in a public institutional setting. We currently offer B.S. degrees in Geography and Environmental Science, and our average class size is 20-30. Worcester State University is part of the Massachusetts state university system. The contractual teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Geology, Physical Geography or a related discipline by August 31, 2020 and undergraduate teaching experience. Areas of teaching competence must include physical geology and oceanography at the introductory level. Salary and rank commensurate with education and experience.
