The Urban Studies program at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a full-time 9-month position on a renewable 3-year contract that begins September 2019 (Autumn Quarter). The successful candidate will have the capacity to act as the Geospatial Technology Coordinator for the Urban Studies Program and manage the range of GIS labs and technologies in the Urban Studies Program, including: two computing labs, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, GIS servers, and software maintenance and licensing. It is expected that the successful candidate will collaborate with other Urban Studies faculty to continue to grow and maintain an undergraduate degree in GIS and Spatial Planning, a Certificate Program in GIS, and a graduate degree in Geospatial Technologies. Additionally,the successful candidate will be expected to augment technical material with critical and real-world examples of GIS applications in urban and environmental planning scenarios.All UW faculty engage in teaching and service.
Established in 2001, the Urban Studies Program currently offers degrees leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainable Urban Development, a Bachelor of Science in Urban Design, a Master of Arts in Community Planning, and a Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies, along with a certificate program in Geographic Information Systems. The Urban Studies Program currently enrolls approximately 140 undergraduate and graduate students and has 13 full-time faculty and lecturers.
