The Water Systems Management Laboratory at UC Merced directed by Dr. Josué Medellín-Azuara, is looking for a self-motivated and qualified Junior Specialist in applied agriculture and environmental engineering, to be engaged in projects related to economics on water use and agricultural crops as well as GIS, modeling, and remote sensing.
The candidate is expected to use his/her professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to our lab. Projects will include geospatial analysis, working with UAV and satellite imagery, as well as spatial and hydroeconomic modeling. The candidate is expected to perform field work in agricultural and natural lands for data collection, carry out research, collaborate on research ideas, oversee assistants in the group, and prepare reports and/or articles on the research progress. The candidate will also assist in writing project reports, technical publications, and academic articles as well as participate in science communication and training, including conferences, workshops, and industry events. This is a full-time exempt appointment with the expectation that the Junior Specialist will be present on campus to work on research related efforts when not conducting field work or work related travel.

Qualifications: Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct scientific research independently with leadership skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have experience with geospatial analysis, coding, and statistics. Demonstrated experience in one or more GIS/RS platforms is required. Demonstrated experience in one or more coding languages is also required. Experience working in California’s agricultural systems and wildlands showing proven knowledge of data collection, experimental design, and communication skills are preferred. Experience in one or more modeling environments is also preferred. Applicants must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering , Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
