We are seeking a highly motivated technical professional to path find, design and develop in new enabling cloud environments. You will assist us in leading the way in maximizing performance of the cloud computing environments to meet mission needs. We process terabytes of near real time data daily, extracting information and providing it to national decision makers. You will employ systems-level thinking in developing and implementing solutions in the areas of cloud computing, using modern development methods and tools. The department currently provides a core technical competency for the Decision Support Systems (DSS) business area and enables program execution in the Advanced Systems Program Office (ASPO) business area.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Work on an Agile team to develop software systems which solve the most challenging remote sensing problems, including the capture, processing, exploitation, visualization and distribution of real-time satellite sensor data
Work collaboratively with architects, developers, technical leads, customers, strategic partners, and end users to collect requirements, design solutions, and deliver extensible software applications
Contribute to deeply rewarding missions through engagement with diverse computer science specialties and specialists in areas like data fusion, signal and image processing, analytics, cloud computing, machine learning, simulation and modeling, physics, service oriented architectures, data management and visualization, and pattern recognition
You have undergraduate and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in related STEM discipline; or a bachelor's degree in relevant STEM field plus four years' experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree
You have experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
Your background includes experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., C\+\+ and/or Python)
You can obtain a DOE Q clearance
Ideally, your background would also include:
Knowledge and experience with implementation of the full software development process using Agile or Iterative methodologies including using tools like Rally or VersionOne
Experience using a subset of the following: system engineering, hardware and software architecture, distributed system design, data exploitation/mining/fusion algorithms, digital signal processing, image processing, optical systems, command and control systems, numerical analysis, modeling and simulation, relational/object/geographic database technologies, user interfaces, scientific data visualization, web services technologies, and multi-core/GPU/parallel computing
Proficiency in any subset of: requirements capture, software modeling using UML, systems level software testing, high consequence anomaly resolution, documentation and training, information assurance, and deployment of delivered systems
Experience with Docker containers, Jenkins continuous integration, Artifactory repository management, configuration management (e.g. Git, SVN, CVS, etc.), and continuous delivery approaches to software development and deployment in cloud-based environments
Adeptness in behavior driven development, especially using tools similar to Behave and Cucumber
Familiarity with collaborative tools such as Confluence, Mattermost, or MS Sharepoint
Proven ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form
Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving; ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast-paced, customer-focused operation; teaming; self-starting
Can obtain SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test
The Systems Design and Architecture Department designs and develops high-performance cloud-based and hybrid solutions used for high-consequence missions with national security impact. Our full-stack team creates and implements environments, infrastructures, software, and algorithms, that enable and perform real-time processing and exploitation from a variety of very challenging, complex data streams from pathfinder remote sensing assets.
Decision Support Systems develops first-of-a-kind tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination systems for critical national security missions. We design, develop, and deploy large networked computing systems that push the state-of-the-art in data processing throughput and real-time action and response. We develop advanced algorithms and software for detecting, tracking, and classifying targets of interest. Our research, development, and engineering efforts are focused in areas such as advanced computing architectures, coordinated tasking and control, multi-mission scheduling optimization, supervised and unsupervised classification techniques, multi-spectral phenomenology and characterization, decision and information theory, and activity-based intelligence. We fundamentally develop and improve the way sensing systems customers make decisions.
