The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Watershed Research Unit, Tifton, GA is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, for full-time, 2-year appointment. Recent Ph.D. (within last 4 years) is required. Appointment provides retirement, health and life benefits. Citizenship restrictions apply. The incumbent will develop, calibrate and validate a semi-empirical model for estimating cotton biomass from fields within the southeastern United States. Model development will involve use of optical and radar satellite remote sensing products along with field data for calibration and validation using geospatial analytical methods. The incumbent will conduct field work and will also collaborate with model developers in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), and partners in other ARS locations.

This position requires a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering, agronomy, geography, environmental science or a related field. Knowledge required includes current methods used in geospatial analysis, including techniques used in crop modeling, satellite remote sensing, and geographic information systems, and fluency in English (oral and written) is highly desireable.
