The Faculty Associate – Research will work under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Physics, and will support a research program within the department within the Remote Sensing Center at the Naval Postgraduate School. The Faculty Associate will participate in research programs and projects in coordination with the Director, Remote Sensing Center. Duties will include conducting research, writing reports, managing research tasks, and the development of research derived instructional materials.
Conduct of scholarly research in support of faculty led team projects.
Initial tasks are in the area of the analysis of laser scanner data (Light Detection and Ranging, or LiDAR). Signal processing techniques from other disciplines are to be analyzed for utility in data processing for LiDAR.
The associate will help advise NPS thesis students in the analysis of remote sensing data, particularly LiDAR waveform data.
The associate may assist in the development of new course materials, and the integration of research products into the Department’s classes.
Assistance in the management of individual faculty and department/center-wide research projects to ensure fulfillment of tasks and dissemination of findings.
An earned undergraduate degree in an appropriate technical discipline (mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or computer science).
Related work experience in remote sensing.
Facility with MATLAB, Interactive Data Language (IDL), and ENVI.
Experience in writing and editing PowerPoint presentations.
Strong communications, time management, and organizational skills.
U.S. citizenship required.
Must be able to get a Secret clearance.
