The School of Arts and Sciences and the Spatial Analysis Lab (SAL) at the University of Richmond will be hiring for a 3-year position as a GIS Operations Manager and Technician, ideally starting in May 2019. The position provides technical and administrative assistance for the broad range of GIS programs and activities undertaken in the SAL and across the University. Responsibilities include supporting innovative approaches to teaching and research tailored to the University's user faculty and student populations. Additional responsibilities include documenting, maintaining, and acquiring spatial data and projects, as well as maintaining lab equipment and associated software. Areas of potential growth and outreach include web-based project archiving, community-engaged GIS, and data analytics.

Support faculty seeking to implement geospatial technologies into their courses
Support faculty engaged in scholarship using geospatial technologies, supporting all stages of the research lifecycle, from research design to public engagement
Consult one-on-one and offer workshops to faculty and student groups about GIS and geospatial technologies
Facilitate access to the SAL's existing resources via ArcGIS Online, blogs, web pages, and other platforms as they become available to share student and faculty work with a broad user base
Promote geospatial projects and create brand recognition to ensure that students, faculty, and the public can easily identify and access University research and teaching initiatives
Software, data, and infrastructure support:
Coordinate with Information Services to administer log-ins, credit tracking, and usage of ArcGIS Online
Manage ArcGIS and related licenses as ArcGIS Online Administrator
Help formulate, promote, and document data standards, workflows, and guidelines to users
Collaborate with SAL Director in maintaining and expanding access to the SAL's spatial data collection(s) through local database server and ESRI cloud services
Acquire or generate new digital materials to facilitate research and teaching for a wide variety of applications and prepare documentation and metadata of same
Develop and implement mobile data collection protocols using geospatial apps
Equipment and administrative support:
Maintain, inventory, and organize operation equipment and supplies (including printers, GPS Units, paper maps, and other supplies, etc.)
Develop and administer efficient sign-out, delivery, and return system for equipment
Process field data for user community as needed
Supervise student interns who support University projects, teaching, and scholarship
Manage operating budget for interns, research, and lab supplies
Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to listen, communicate, and collaborate with technical experts and non-experts from a variety of disciplines
Thorough knowledge of GIS, both server- and client-based
Experience with ArcGIS platform (Online, Desktop, Server, Portal, and Pro) required
Knowledge of different hardware configurations, operating system environments, and relational database management systems
Evidence of strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and results-oriented approaches to complex problems
Experience with web applications that use online mapping APIs, such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, and Google Maps
Experience with R, Python, and computer programming highly desirable
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work in a changing environment
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Master's degree, or above, in Geography, GIS, or a related field.
Research or direct project experience with Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and Global Positioning Systems required.
Willingness to upgrade knowledge and training capabilities in GIS
Initial term will be one year; may be renewable up to three years
