OHIO UNIVERSITY’s Department of Geography in Athens, Ohio invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer of GIScience and geography beginning August 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach regular sections of the 2000-level service courses in GIS and statistics, and upper level undergraduate/graduate courses in cartography, GIS, web mapping, and GIS programming. The ideal candidate will have a record of excellent teaching as demonstrated by assessments of teaching effectiveness, and experience with latest practices in instructional design and technology. A substantial component of the position's responsibilities will involve teaching online graduate-level courses for two new certificates in Geospatial Information Science. Previous experience teaching online courses in cartography or GIS is strongly preferred. Non-tenure track faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of seven classroom courses every year.
Master's in Geography; graduate level education in cartography and GIS; proficiency with cartographic design software; at least 3 years of teaching experience involving specialized cartography and GIS courses at the undergraduate and graduate level; a demonstrated commitment to outstanding undergraduate and graduate education; ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, at a native or near-native level.
Experience teaching online courses in cartography or GIS; demonstratable ability to teach courses in web mapping and GIS programming.
