The Department of Civil Engineering (CVE) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for regular faculty positions commencing in Fall 2019 at the ranks of assistant, associate or full professor with joint appointments in one of three recently formed AUS research institutes. CVE is seeking highly motivated scholars with proven experience and outstanding research record in areas relating directly to sustainable and resilient civil infrastructures. Research areas of the applicants should include, but are not limited to, 3D concrete printing, vehicle simulation, energy efficiency in constructed facilities, and impacts of environmental factors.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute in areas relating directly to one of three research institutes that are being established under the University’s strategic research plan (Smart Cities Research Institute, Materials Science and Engineering Research Institute, and Gulf Environments Research Institute). AUS is committed to excellence in education and research. The College of Engineering is expanding its research endeavors by establishing new doctoral programs in disciplines critical to engineering and science. The first doctoral program in engineering systems management began in Fall 2018 with 12 students. Establishment of several other interdisciplinary doctoral programs related to the research institutes is in progress. AUS provides a competitive research startup package and access to a High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC) and the Geospatial Analysis Center. Researchers with interests in traffic operations and transport informatics will have access to a state-of-the-art NADS miniSim driving simulator. Thus, the successful candidate will be expected to establish high-level, active research programs supported by internal and external funding sources.
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, significant teaching and industrial work experience (preferably in North America), outstanding scientific background with evidence of a significant research record and publications, and experience in supervising doctoral dissertations. The application package shall include a cover letter, detailed curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, and names of at least three references who would be willing to write letters of recommendation. Currently, the department has 410 undergraduate students, 47 graduate students, 20 full-time faculty, 3 lab instructors and an administrative assistant. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org).
