Essential Job Duties:
The System Programmer Analyst is the project lead for high performance computing for the College of Natural Resources (CNR); innovating and implementing solutions for advanced computing that takes into account I/O, GPU processing, storage, and visualization; to be performed locally or via a cloud based service. The position provides advanced computing support for instruction and research, predominantly focused on the needs of the Center for Geospatial Analytics (CGA), supporting GIS, Remote Sensing, and Modeling. The position may also provide higher level computing support to CNR's faculty, staff, and graduate students. The system programmer will work as part of the CNR IT team and provide a campus presence through participation on campus committees. Excellent communication and project management skills are essential to communicate and facilitate solutions to complex problems.
Core responsibilities will include:
Research computing support that includes proprietary and open source solutions, that include but are not limited to Esri ArcGIS, GRASSGIS, ERDAS Imagine, Harris Geospatial ENVI, R, and SAS.
Virtual computer lab (VCL) administration – including custom image creation for site licensed software, resource management, and user access.
Providing expertise and support for computations utilizing High Performance Computing (local or cloud solution) to include advanced configurations for high performance computing.
Virtual server management (VMWare)
Advanced desktop and networking support for Windows, Macs and Linux operating systems.
Database Management – Understanding of backend database architectures, such as MSSQL, MYSQL, and PostGRE.
Maintaining workflow documentation using problem tracking systems, databases, and IP management tools. Documentation is to be reviewed for currency and updated as required.
Working effectively and collaboratively with others to accomplish organizational goals and accommodates all CNR IT technical needs which includes routine desktop support responsibilities, on-site services, and lab/classroom technologies.

Experience with HPC, Linux Proficiency, Scripting.
Team Player – Strong communication and customer services skills.
Masters in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Experience with shell-level scripts and administering linux systems.
Experience with big data processing technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Google Earth Engine, and NoSQL RDBMS.
Experience with virtualized environments such as AWS and Azure.
Required license or certification:
Valid Driver's license.
