The Center for Advanced Governmental Studies of the Advanced Academic Programs of Johns Hopkins University, based in Washington, D.C., is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member. The Center houses six master’s degree and five graduate certificate programs. This includes the following programs: MA in Government, MS in Government Analytics, MA in Public Management, MA in Global Security Studies; MS in Geospatial Intelligence, Certificate in Intelligence; Certificate in Science, Technology, and International Security; and the Certificate in Nonprofit Management. These programs educate students who wish to apply rigorous academic concepts to policy-related careers.
The person hired for this new faculty position will be an academic coordinator for the Center and will teach 5 courses per year including courses in quantitative and qualitative research methods. The candidate must have proficiency in R and online teaching experience is preferred. Other responsibilities of this position include speaking with prospective students, serving on admissions committees, advising students, reviewing capstone or thesis papers prior to defense, assisting with the recruitment of adjunct faculty, and supporting outreach efforts on social media and at information sessions.
This position has a 12-month renewable contract. Review of applications for the position will begin immediately for a start date of January 15, 2018.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. and teaching experience in any of the following fields, the study of political institutions, survey methods and public opinions, parties and elections, democracy studies, international development, security studies, cyber policy, or public policy analysis. Practitioner experience in government, government consulting, or politics is especially desirable.
Telecommuting is allowed.
