The Center for Environmental Studies seeks applicants for a full-time 12-month, Instructor (non-tenure eligible) position. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic programs in Environmental Studies and support teaching and advising the undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Innovation.
This term faculty position will be housed in the Center for Environmental Studies and report to the Director. This position is a teaching/advising (80% effort) and service (20% effort) position. Primary responsibilities for instruction include coordinating a first-year undergraduate sequence for all majors, with additional courses to be developed based upon the specific expertise of the successful candidate. The individual filling this position will also serve as the primary advisor to undergraduates in the Certificate in Sustainable Innovation, a transdisciplinary undergraduate program serving students from across VCU. Service related actives for this position will be related to operation of the Center and VCU Life Sciences.
At least a MS degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies/Science, Urban Studies, Applied Spatial Statistics, Environmental Policy, or other discipline salient to the core CES mission.
Experience teaching at the undergraduate level (or equivalent).
Fluency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data collection, curation, and analysis.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Broad understanding of skills salient to teaching core content in Environmental Studies (data collection & analysis, environmental policy, and hands-on education).
Ability to quickly learn university software salient to advising (e.g., Banner & Degree Works).
Desire to integrate field work, analysis, and policy into undergraduate curricula.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
