The Research Associate I position provides theInterdisciplinary Geospatial Technology Lab (IGTL) Director with direct supportfor the management and completion of externally funded projects and campusgeospatial technology learning initiatives. The Research Associate will serveas the primary GIS analyst for the Thrive Regional Partnership regionalplanning project at UTC. The Research Associate I assists the IGTL Directorwith maintenance of campus GIS infrastructure, consisting of GIS hardware andsoftware management, database management, web mapping application development,and lab and teaching facility administration. The Research Associate assistswith the coordination of resources, materials, and data for the implementationand instruction of geospatial technologies among campus academic programs. TheResearch Associate I works closely with external funding partners to managegeospatial projects objectives and student intern progress. The ResearchAssociate I position serves as a supporting source of geospatial expertise forinterdisciplinary research and continued integration of geospatial technologiesinto the UTC learning environment.
Assisting the IGTL Director with maintenance andupkeep of geospatial infrastructure through the IGTL.
Providing GIS expertise for research conductedby campus academic departments and centers.
Actively participating in project management anddecision making in reference to the infrastructure and available UTC GISresources.
Coordinating and tracking geospatial resourcesamong various departments and colleges.
Representing UTC geospatial research projectsand GIS programs of study at regional & national meetings, conferences, andpaper presentations.
Actively managing and participating inexternally funded applied geospatial research.
Mentoring and advising student workers,designing and completing spatial analysis models, publishing and hosting datathrough web mapping services, creating custom web and mobile mappingapplications, attending and presenting research at meetings and assisting theIGTL Director with public training and workshops.
Updating and maintaining open geospatial datafor academic and research use.
Managing and maintaining GIS teaching andresearch labs and hardware.
Providing geospatial technology training forfaculty and students.
Assisting the Director with outreach and partnershipdevelopment.
Assisting the Director with grant writing andproject development.
