This job is for a full-time research faculty position in within GTRI’s Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL). The person holding the Glenn Robinson Chair will be expected to build and maintain a program of Recognized Technical Excellence in electro-optics, to include optical, electro-optical, and photonic materials, devices, systems, and optical information processing. Applications may include such areas as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), targeting, remote sensing, and electronic warfare. This program will entail carrying out creative research, building collaborative technical teams, publicizing the results, proposal writing, and other program development to secure external funding. The person holding the Glenn Robinson Chair will have a research-titled position in EOSL, a laboratory within of GTRI. He/She will report through normal channels. Funding from the chair endowment will cover approximately 1/3 of the salary; the remainder will be covered with funds from successfully sponsored contracts, grants, and internal IRAD.
Principal Research Engineer/Scientist
A Master’s degree in EE, Physics or Optics and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
A Doctoral degree in EE, Physics or Optics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must have successful record of IRAD formulation and leadership as well as attracting funding for sponsored research. This candidate will have existing government / industry relationships that can be developed in support of the organizational strategy. This person will be expected to leverage their current business relationships to lead, develop, support and grow additional, related technical thrusts and to identify additional strategic directions for the laboratory and GTRI. This Chair must demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and oral. Applicant should have experience briefing program activities directly to senior level (SES and General Officer) sponsors within the government.
Ideally, the selected candidate will be nationally recognized in academia and industry, as evidenced by noteworthy journal and/or conference publications, session leadership at national symposia, membership on national committees, and involvement in salient professional societies at the Senior level or above.
