Job Description:The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Geographic Information Science (GIS) to begin August 14, 2017. We seek a GIS scholar who applies geospatial theory and innovative methods and technologies to advance a vibrant, externally-funded research program that complements the department's existing strengths. The successful candidate will exhibit excellence in teaching and provide leadership in the expansion of the department's undergraduate GIS curriculum and in the development of a newly established Professional Science Master's Program. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS and the candidate's area of specialty, as well as advising of undergraduate and graduate students. The faculty member is expected to play a key role in growing the Department's BS degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology, and in enhancing the profile of GIS within the Department's graduate programs. The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment (www.ecu.edu/geog/) is a diverse, research-active, and collegial unit that houses five undergraduate degree programs, and offers the MS in Geography. Miniumum Qualifications: A PhD in Geography or related field with GIS emphasis is required. Preferred Education and Experience: A range of GIS specializations will be considered, but we particularly welcome candidates with proven expertise in programming, spatial statistics, modeling of complex systems, geospatial data mining, and/or big data analytics. These skills might be used in the context of one or more of the following: 4D GIS, GIS Cyberinfrastructure, the Internet of Things, cloud analytics, social media, web-based GIS, full-motion video analyses, or other related areas.
