About Virginia Tech:
Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT—serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.
The Department of Geography at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor for a restricted 9 month appointment beginning in August 2017 to teach the equivalent of three classes per semester for the academic year 2017-2018. We seek an energetic geographer committed to excellent teaching with expertise in Geographic Information Science with the knowledge and skills to teach courses in both Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing. The courses will be offerings of existing foundational classes (Principles of GIS, Modeling in GIS, and Introduction to Remote Sensing), and therefore syllabi, and lecture and lab materials will be provided to ensure students are fully prepared for more advanced courses. Some specific teaching assignments will be for leading multiple lab sections as opposed to full lecture instruction. The successful applicant will also be requested to teach an additional course related to GIS or RS in their specialty area. Full information concerning the department and university can be found at: http://www.geography.vt.edu and http://www.vt.edu. Sample syllabi for the courses are available by request.
