Wells College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Science. We are seeking to fill a full-time two-year visiting position in Environmental Science with the possibility of conversion to tenure-track. The position begins in August 2017.
We seek a broadly trained and versatile candidate with a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree related to environmental science. Candidates should have teaching experience including experience teaching courses in GIS (geographic information systems). We welcome applicants who have experience working in the field of environmental science in state, federal, local or other agencies, or in non-governmental organizations. Regional contacts and connections will be particularly valuable.
Candidates must be able to offer courses in GIS, manage technical needs related to offering these courses, and lead development of a minor in geospatial technologies. The successful candidate will teach limnology and other applied and career-relevant courses that will augment an existing environmental science curriculum, and be able to successfully integrate use of parks, protected areas, and other natural resources in the region into the curriculum.
In addition to undergraduate teaching, the successful applicant will oversee student projects, serve as an academic advisor, and contribute to college-wide offerings and the overall life of the college.
