Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician (SL-3)
Salary: Commensurate with experience
The primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee, train students on how to operate, and troubleshoot problems in a range of equipment that will be used for faculty and graduate research during coursework; including the Geospatial Remote Sensing and Biogeochemistry Freshman Research Initiatives in the department. The Geospatial facilities include geophysical (active and passive source seismic) and geospatial data acquisition systems, basic computer hardware and software support; including internal networking, shared software license maintenance and hardware configuration. The Biogeochemistry facilities include basic analytical equipment, hyrdrogeological equipment as well as thin section and rock sample preparation equipment and microscopes.
Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering, with at least 5 years of experience with analytical instruments and data acquisition systems, comparable to those listed above. Applicants with advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in the Physical Sciences or Engineering, with at least 3 years of experience with analytical instruments and data acquisition systems, comparable to those listed above, are preferred. The job requirements include the ability to work well with faculty and students on the use of analytical instruments and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate would have prior experience with at least several of the instruments indicated above and the willingness to learn the operation and maintenance of others.
