The Department of Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Quantitative Environmental Scientist at the assistant professor level (tenure-track). We seek candidates with proven statistical, geospatial, modeling, or computational capabilities; expertise in landscape ecology or climate change adaptation; a track record of applying this knowledge to addressing environmental challenges; and an ability to work with interdisciplinary teams of both natural and social scientists.
The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) engage with and complement existing departmental and campus expertise in fields that include ecology, conservation science, spatial analysis, land-use change, climate science, agroecology, environmental policy, political ecology, and environmental economics; (2) foster collaborations outside the university and/or with interdisciplinary teams; (3) develop a strong research program providing research opportunities for post-doctoral researchers and graduate and undergraduate students; and (4) teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including one course per year in the proposed Master's Program in Social Science Data Analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and/or service.
RANK: Assistant Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree (expected to be conferred by August 2017), and demonstrated experience in research and university-level teaching.
POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2017, with academic year beginning September 2017. Degree must be conferred prior to December 31, 2017 for employment beyond that date.
