Job Description Summary:
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Geography at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The George Washington University is located in downtown Washington, D.C. and offers BA and MS degrees in Geography, a BA in Environmental Studies, Minors in Geography and GIS, and a graduate certificate in GIS. Faculty members in the Department are actively involved in the Environmental Studies Program, the Center for Urban and Environmental Research (CUER), and the Elliott School of International Affairs. Research foci in the department include urban environment issues, Arctic regions and migration.
Any sub-specialty in Biogeography will be considered but preference will be given to those with expertise in human-environmental dynamics through research in areas such as spatial ecology, processes governing biological diversity (including human activities), global environmental change, and ecosystem services. A candidate with a strong background in spatial techniques (GIS, Remote Sensing and Spatial Statistics) and research interests in urban-environmental issues, climate change or the Arctic is highly desirable.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Geography or an allied field by the date of appointment, a specialty in Biogeography and possess a strong background in landscape/spatial ecology and geospatial analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Biogeography, Physical Geography and their field of interest.
