The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the Department of Global Health within the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health at the University of Washington are recruiting to fill several (up to 7) full-time and/or part-time faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate and Full Professor without tenure level.
The successful applicants will have an MD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in statistics, spatial statistics, ecology, epidemiology, genetics, population health, or a related field. The successful applicant will have a proven record of quantitative research in spatial and temporal modeling of diseases using multiple and large data sets.
The incumbent(s) will investigate spatial and temporal aspects of infectious disease burden to provide an improved geospatial evidence-base for the implementation of disease control. The research undertaken will include an analysis of the nature, causes, and implications of changing global patterns of infectious diseases with an exploration of interactions between climate and vector ecology, and geospatial modelling of major determinants of infectious diseases, notably urbanization and nutrition. Methods used by the incumbent(s) for disease risk mapping, disease burden estimation and projections will include time-series analysis, population dynamic theory, remote sensing, and various forms of spatial geo-statistical analyses. The incumbent(s) is expected to contribute to the significant expansion of the repertoire of infectious disease cartography to include a wide range of pathogens of global health importance, as well as lead, in the clear critique of outputs. Candidates possessing specific disease interests in HIV, TB, diarrhea, and/or an interest in nutrition are strongly encouraged to apply.
Faculty members will also take on an important leadership role in mentoring pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows working in the field of health metrics.
