The Rutgers School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking outstanding candidates for the next Chair of the Department of Biostatistics. Under the leadership of the new Dean, Dr. Perry N. Halkitis, The Rutgers School of Public Health is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth, including the addition of multiple faculty members this year. The Rutgers School of Public Health is devoted to employing an innovative, inter-disciplinary model, which aims to improve health locally, domestically and worldwide through a unique blend of public health research, practice, and education, at both our Newark and New Brunswick sites.
The Department Chair will serve as a key member of the school's leadership team and be responsible for assuring the quality and growth of programs in collaboration with departmental faculty. The Chair will demonstrate a broad understanding in key content areas of the department and possess exemplary academic achievements, strategic leadership ability, strong interpersonal and communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, as well as thorough understandings of pedagogical, practice, and research processes. The Chair will work with faculty and staff to enact department vision; recruit, and develop a set of diverse, high-performance faculty; maintain an atmosphere conducive to collaboration and transparency; and work with other leaders of The Rutgers School of Public Health to realize the mission of the school. Moreover, the Chair must demonstrate evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion with the dedication and skills needed to help The Rutgers School of Public Health build a faculty that reflects the population of our state and our nation— diverse in terms of numerous indicators including but not limited to race, ethnicity, culture, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, and nation of birth.
Key areas of interest for the Department include but are not limited to: multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, psychometrics, geospatial analysis, network analysis, sampling methods, longitudinal analysis, big data, causal inference, analysis of clinical trial data, and applied statistics/biostatistics.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to and evidence of building interdisciplinary education programs and translation of science to improve the lives of populations.
Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled. The expected start date is June 1, 2018.
Minimum Education and Experience:
1) Doctoral degree or equivalent in biostatistics, statistics, applied statistics, or quantitative methods; (2) a record of accomplishment of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding for research, and track record of effective teaching and student mentoring as would be expected for the rank of full professor; and (3) effective interpersonal and communication skills, leadership and management experience in a university or other research setting. Candidates who are board certified or eligible in Public Health are preferred.
