The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing (DIRS) Laboratory in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science (CIS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking applications from mid-career professionals for a Program Scientist opening. The successful candidate will have significant roles in ongoing and future research programs of the DIRS Laboratory including new program and business development, project management, and scientific research.
The DIRS Laboratory is an internationally recognized laboratory for research and education in the science and engineering of end-to-end remote sensing systems for the extraction of information about the Earth. Consisting of nine faculty, thirteen research and administrative staff, and nearly forty graduate students, the laboratory receives approximately $3.5M in annual research funding. Research activities include significant projects in the physics-based simulation of remote sensing images, calibration of satellite and airborne instruments, phenomenological measurements and modeling of material properties,end-to-end analyses and system engineering studies, and research into the development and operation of unmanned aerial systems (drones) for remote sensing applications.
The Laboratory is seeking a professional staff member to perform key roles in maintaining and advancing its leadership position in the science and engineering of remote sensing systems. Key roles will include identifying and vetting new research opportunities for the laboratory, providing leadership and coordination with Principal Investigators in the writing and submission of research proposals, performing management of staff allocation across multiple projects, and coordinating administrative tasks in support of financial and technical reporting requirements. In addition, the staff member will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects in the laboratory.
Required Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in imaging science, mathematics, engineering, or related field
Significant experience in remote sensing science and engineering
Significant experience in the management of research projects
Successful record of writing proposals for sponsored research funding
Required Minimum Education Level
M.S. or PhD.in imaging science, mathematics, engineering, or related field
