The Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University invites applications for multiple faculty positions from candidates with scholarly interests in construction engineering and management, structural engineering and materials, and sustainable infrastructure systems:
• For the Construction Engineering and Management position, we seek candidates with expertise in, but not limited to, emerging technologies in remote sensing, digital modeling, imaging, visualization, automated model checking and human systems engineering domains to enhance design, construction, operation, and maintenance aspects of the built environment. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and jointly with other faculty on research related to a smart, sustainable, and safe built environment.
• In the Structural Engineering and Materials area, we seek candidates with emphasis on the analysis, behavior, and design of innovative structures and/or the analysis and behavior of traditional and new structural materials. The successful candidate is expected to complement the existing expertise as well as provide new research directions. Exceptional candidates with expertise in other sub-disciplines, such as automated construction and 3-D printing of infrastructure for building and retrofit, will also be considered.
• For the Sustainable Infrastructure Systems position, we seek candidates with exceptional ability to conduct innovative research in areas such as, life cycle assessment, smart cities, climate change adaptability and mitigation, energy-efficient materials and structures, water and energy management, and resilience as they relate to the built environment.
The Glenn Department is growing to be a national leader in sustainable and resilient infrastructure research and education. The Department recently received an NSF Revolutionizing Engineering and Computer Science Department, or RED, award. Our RED award is aimed at creating an undergraduate program model for academic departments around the nation to follow. Several opportunities exist to contribute to this transformative effort. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in civil engineering or related discipline at the time of hiring. They must have the ability and desire to teach civil engineering undergraduate and graduate courses; to collaborate with others within the department, college, and university; and to develop strong externally funded research programs that support Ph.D. students. Candidates who may be suitable for joint-appointment with other departments are also encouraged to apply.
