The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent research center at the University of Washington. Its mission is to monitor global health conditions and health systems, as well as to evaluate interventions, initiatives, and reforms. IHME carries out a range of projects within different research areas including the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors; Future Health Scenarios; Costs and Cost Effectiveness; Geospatial Analysis; Resource Tracking; and Impact Evaluations. The aim is to provide policymakers, donors, and researchers with the highest-quality quantitative evidence base to make decisions that achieve better health.
IHME has an exciting new opportunity for an individual to join the Client Services Unit (CSU) at IHME as an Associate. In a full time capacity under the leadership and guidance of the Director of IHME's Client Services Unit (CSU), the purpose of the position is to join the team in providing support for the development and implementation of CSU projects. The Client Services Unit aims to provide an outlet for private sector organizations and others who will pay to gain access to IHME results, derivative analyses, and customizable data products for business planning purposes paired with individualized consultation, training, and support. This will be accomplished by helping to design and implement those projects, managing specific project work-streams, managing project and client relationships, and producing high-quality project deliverables on time. The individual will frequently be expected to interact successfully with a wide range of stakeholders and to concisely describe complex concepts and materials on the Global Burden of Disease Project, Forecasting, health systems, systems transformation, and public health. This is a one-year renewable contract, where the incumbent may earn a yearly incentive bonus based upon CSU incentive targets being achieved during the plan year.
Understanding and Representing IHME and Health System Solutions
Become familiar with substantive areas of IHME research to understand the dimensions and uses of health data in complex multi-disciplinary analyses, including, but not limited to: health financing, impact evaluations, organizational transformation, disease forecasting and health system strengthening.
Further develop his/her IHME knowledge including GBD, forecasting, health financing, health service provision strategy, regulation and others.
Understand client and collaborator needs within the CSU and determine how best to match them against IHME's internal competencies and expertise.
Represent IHME's CSU work to external audiences, including clients, researchers, collaborators, donors, and other interested stakeholders.
Make presentations to external audiences and seed collaborative efforts with external organizations accordingly.
Client Support and Deliverable Production
Conduct landscape analyses and contribute to the writing of proposals for the CSU area of work.
Lead project workstreams in problem solving and developing project deliverables related to health systems, both from IHME headquarters in Seattle as well as client sites in the US and abroad.
Translate complex scientific findings and results into materials that are comprehensible to clients and collaborators. Create presentations of findings, reports, and related deliverables.
Produce supplemental analyses and results based upon scientific findings combined with background research and client/collaborator-driven information that meet specific client and collaborator needs.
Analyze and synthesize information provided by clients and collaborators and integrate that information into project deliverables.
Help to develop and execute strategic plans that will leverage existing sets of results and expertise at IHME to meet client needs.
Write client and collaborator reports, and other related materials from concept to finished product utilizing a high degree of critical thinking and creativity. Carry out this work with input from the CSU Leadership.
When instructed by team leadership, liaise with other teams at IHME to ensure mutual understanding of CSU team needs for specific projects.
Understand and help to further refine metrics for project quality in all aspects of deliverable development.
Contribute to client cultivation under the leadership and guidance of CSU leadership.
Carry out communications, relationship-building, and project management with leaders from governmental, nonprofit, research, intergovernmental, service delivery organizations, and private sector organizations to facilitate productive collaboration.
Develop and Disseminate CSU Knowledge and Training
Help develop, grow and maintain the IHME CSU Knowledge Warehouse, a repository and resource for previous, current and up-coming CSU projects and information related to these projects.
Participate in and often lead CSU training and dissemination activities.
Provide rapid responses on key CSU knowledge questions and enquiries to clients and key stakeholders.
Help build IHME CSU project knowledge and leadership networking globally.
Must exercise strong independent judgment in executing the responsibilities contained herein, assessing information at hand, conferring with other key stakeholders, and contribute to setting the optimal strategic direction for the CSU in the context of IHME's overall strategy mission.
Manage and mentor Data Specialists and Data Analysts. Provide timely feedback and priority-setting guidance to them. Bear responsibility for their goal setting, performance evaluation, and corrective action as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the CSU Director that fall within the reasonable scope of this position as member of the team.

Master's degree in business, health, medicine, or related social science or commensurate work experience.
Professional background in economics, medicine, and/or business administration with substantial knowledge and passion for health systems strengthening and at least 5 years of experience in project implementation and/or global health work with donors and countries in the health sector.
Experience in working in highly complex multi-disciplinary and multicultural environments desirable.
Experience in management consulting highly desirable.
Fluent in English essential, good command of working Spanish and/or French highly desirable.
High degree of political acumen and cultural competency to work effectively with high-level external partners and collaborators, including researchers, policymakers, and donors.
Comfortable with uncertainty in project implementation.
Strong oral and written communication skills and relationship management skills are critical to communicate with stakeholders at multiple levels.
Excellent interpersonal skills; a cooperative team player, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with IHME colleagues and external collaborators.
Outstanding intellectual capability and knowledge of global health and development issues.
Experience with proposal development, training and mentoring less experienced staff, and in strategic management of resources highly desirable.
Incumbent must be able to work independently, formulate and execute upon strategic plans, and translate organizational goals into concrete priorities to which resources are allocated to ensure workstream completion on time and on quality.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment to manage multiple priorities while coordinating resources needed to meet deadlines.
Must have valid passport or ability to obtain passport to travel nationally and internationally.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
Extensive travel may be required, up to 30%, depending upon projects.

Work is often also required nights and weekends.
