The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent research center at the University of Washington. Its mission is to monitor global health conditions and health systems, as well as to evaluate interventions, initiatives, and reforms. IHME carries out a range of projects within different research areas including the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors; Future Health Scenarios; Costs and Cost Effectiveness; Geospatial Analysis; Resource Tracking; and Impact Evaluations. The aim is to provide policymakers, donors, and researchers with the highest-quality quantitative evidence base to make decisions that achieve better health.
IHME has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Program Specialist in the Client Services Unit. The Client Services Unit aims to increase the funding that private sector companies provide to IHME's work, by engaging creatively with those companies and offering a range of options for financial engagement. The Program Specialist provides specialized knowledge in the administration of the work of the unit and its interaction with clients. Activities include, but are not limited to, client management; content creation; communication planning; organizational planning of events; and support for senior CSU personnel involved in these activities. The Program Specialist must develop an understanding of different research and policy needs across multiple projects in the CSU to best meet client and team needs. The individual must be able to independently respond to complex time-sensitive issues and problems that require creative problem-solving and savvy project management skills. S/he must have a capacity for big-picture thinking with the ability to adeptly develop and handle sophisticated CSU activities. S/he will establish best practices for CSU project and event management and efficiently support senior CSU personnel in these activities.
This position is supervised by the Director of the Client Services Unit. This is a one-year renewable contract, where the incumbent may earn a yearly incentive bonus based upon CSU incentive targets being achieved during the plan year.
Become familiar with substantive areas of IHME research to understand the dimensions and uses of health data in complex multidisciplinary analyses, including, but not limited to, GBD, health financing, impact evaluations, organizational transformation, disease forecasting, and health system strengthening.
Understand client and collaborator needs within the CSU and determine how best to match them against IHME's internal competencies and expertise. Outreach, Planning, and Execution
Participate in the development and implementation of the unit's presence and interaction with client development through various outreach activities.
Provide accurate and efficient communication to internal and external audiences concerning the projects being planned and delivered by the Client Services Unit.
Manage all stages of event planning and execution, including, but not limited to, contracting, agenda development, catering and menu planning, budget management, and logistical and travel support.
Help develop, grow, and maintain the IHME CSU Knowledge Warehouse, a repository and resource for previous, current, and upcoming CSU projects and related information to these projects
Contribute to client cultivation under the leadership and guidance of CSU leadership. Project Management, Client Support, and Deliverable Production
Coordinate CSU project work streams in problem-solving and developing project deliverables, both from IHME headquarters in Seattle as well as client sites in the US and abroad.
Liaison with institutional partners, including academic research institutions, think tanks, clinical facilities, governmental organizations, and non-governmental organizations. Communicate across international teams of researchers on behalf of the CSU to best ensure attainment of project goals while exhibiting cultural competency and deft communication skills.
Central point of contact to organize and facilitate calendars, travel, and logistics for CSU staff and clients.
Turn intellectual agendas set by the director into action plans that can be implemented effectively across the multiple project participants involved. Must confidently and effectively participate in project assignments with solid grounding in project specifics and current status.
Support creation of research materials, contribute to agenda development, and handle logistics and major preparation activities.
Create smooth and efficient processes for archiving and maintaining project records, including study protocols, meeting reports, presentations, publications, funding requests, and other materials as needed. Make all materials available as needed to project participants. General
Communicate clearly and effectively while contributing as a productive member of the CSU. Work closely with other team members to help them with relevant tasks, show them how to learn new skills, and help resolve emerging problems on different projects. Attend relevant meetings, adhere to deadlines, and participate as a vital member to collectively advance team-level objectives.
Must exercise strong independent judgment in executing the responsibilities contained herein, assessing information at hand and conferring with other key stakeholders.
Participate in overall community of the Institute, carrying out duties as required as team members with other Institute members.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the CSU Director that fall within the reasonable scope of this position as a member of the team.

Bachelor's degree in business, health, medicine, or related field or equivalent combination of education and three years' project management/administration experience.
Must be extremely detail-oriented and organized.
Strong project management skills, including demonstrated ability to think independently while coordinating resources needed to meet deadlines
Flexible and able to juggle changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Must be a problem-solver, self-motivated, and require minimal supervision.
Strong oral and written communication skills and relationship-management skills are critical to communicate with stakeholders at multiple levels
Comfortable with uncertainty in project implementation.
Excellent interpersonal skills; a cooperative team player, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with IHME colleagues and external collaborators.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, depending upon projects.
Must have valid passport or ability to obtain passport to travel nationally and internationally.
Work is often also required nights and weekends.
