This position will provide research and Extension programming for south central Colorado and will be based at the San Luis Valley Research Center (SLVRC). The position will contribute to Colorado State University engagement throughout the San Luis Valley (SLV) of Colorado. Position responsibilities will be 60% research and 40% Extension.
The extension and research responsibilities will address current and emerging issues in disease management and control, primarily in potatoes for both storage and fresh markets. The purpose of this position is to conduct an applied research and engagement program on disease management important to the SLV and other potato growing regions of Colorado. The position could also potentially work on other plants diseases in rotational crops with potatoes in the SLV. The SLVRC has a strong potato breeding program and the successful applicant will interact with the breeding program in selecting and screening lines resistant to potato diseases endemic to or emerging in the SLV. Other potential areas of research include, but are not limited to, using innovative technologies, such as remote sensing, GIS, App and/or Web-based tools for disease forecasting and management, pathogen diagnostic development, pathogen vector management, and/or soil health.

PhD, Degree(s) emphasis in plant pathology, plant biology, or horticulture or related field and less than three (3) years relevant postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research in the areas of plant pathology and integrated disease management including knowledge of diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, nematodes and/or viruses. • Record of strong communication and interaction with colleagues and clientele groups using modern, innovative technology. • Ability to conduct interdisciplinary research in a team environment. • Experience with or desire to work with crop producers and the agricultural industry. • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
