Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Data Analyst.
In this role, the successful candidate The Department of Population Health at NYU School of Medicine seeks a Data Analyst for 2 projects: 1) To facilitate database development and data acquisition for an initiative to develop an interactive website to track health and health-related metrics at the city level, the City Health Dashboard (CH-Dash). The goal of this project is to expand the pilot version of the City Health Dashboard from 4 cities to 500 cities across the United States. The candidate will work with the grants Director for Metrics and Analytics to develop efficient extract/transform/load (ETL) procedures for federal, state, and other data sources. 2) The Data Analyst will work as part of a team to support development of a population-based data infrastructure of national, state and local data streams for the Center for Innovation in Population Health Surveillance. In the first year, the team will develop a series of demonstration projects designed to focus on: (1) novel uses of electronic health record network data streams, (2) employing small area estimation approaches, and (3) innovating in how data are shared and visualized for municipal policymakers. It will also support a Brooklyn-based Urban Health Innovations Lab that will serve as a resource for community, clinical and research partners.
CH-Dashboard Develop, manage, and improve databases to track provenance and versioning Develop deep familiarity with health and health-related data from diverse sources including big data platforms, large administrative databases, among others
Import and clean raw datasets, evaluate data quality and coverage, and extract, transform and load cleaned datasets into indexed databases Create analytic datasets from databases based on researcher instruction
Monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of data; prepare reports, charts and tables of data for faculty and staff
Clearly communicate processes used and results achieved, suggest new and alternative approaches
Center for Innovation in Population Health Surveillance Oversee data management and analytic processes Maintain, update, and utilize databases on sociodemographic compositions population, area health outcomes, social and economic factors, physical environment characteristics
Integrating data from multiple sources, including electronic health records, published literature, surveys, censuses, administrative records, vital registration systems, and disease registries Innovate and streamline ways to bring together and visualize data
Develop code that can be used by a diverse range of individuals to solve commonly encountered problems and implement widely used analyses
Archive, catalog, and annotate datasets to build a common library of materials for use by other researchers
Prepare and/or support publications, presentations, and data requests Create text, tables, figures, and charts for presentations and publications Create effective forms of data visualization, tailored to program and stakeholder need
Execute queries on databases to respond to the needs of partners and external requests from collaborators, media, policymakers, donors, and other stakeholders
Provide technical assistance and support to stakeholders to help them use data resources effectively and creatively.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters degree in epidemiology, data science, public health or related field Database design and development experience (extract, transform, load) SAS and/or R programming skills Experience with github or other code repository; adherence to good practices in code management and documentation Experience in data visualization (e.g. RShiny, Tableau) Python or other programming skills to pull data from APIs is an asset Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems Ability to interface effectively with others, must work and communicate effectively with partners Strong time-management and prioritization skills; ability to work well under pressure and in teams
Preferred Qualifications: Database management experience using postGreSQL or Oracle; experience with geospatial databases is an asset (e.g. PostGIS or MongoDB)
