The Urban Ecology Research Lab has a unique research associate position (9-month service period) starting this Summer to work on a data-intensive project The project is a pilot investigation to detect signatures of socio-ecological functions and innovations in urbanizing regions. Using high resolution socio-ecological data (i.e. census, land use parcels, NDVI etc.) and social network records (e.g., cell phone/tweets), our team applies selected metrics to identify observable patterns and extrapolate general properties of a city's socio-ecological structure and dynamics.
Requirements: Minimum requirements include Ph.D. within the past six years. The candidate should also have significant experience with GIS data, large data sets, modeling and programming languages. Desired requirements PhD in a field related to Urban Modeling/Urban Ecology, including, but not limited to, ecology, biology, earth science, computer science, physics, modeling, or remote sensing/GIS.
Desired: In addition to a solid grounding in science and information technology, it is desirable for the candidate to have direct experience managing a dynamic, self-organizing research lab or similarly evolving organization.
