The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS), University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position beginning October 1, 2017. The Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS) in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC Irvine currently offers a postdoctoral scholar position in the area of improving precipitation estimation and forecast for reservoir operation using remote sensing and in-situ observations. The candidate will be responsible for developing quantitative precipitation estimation and forecast in support of short-term hydropower scheduling. The successful candidate should a have strong background in remote sensing precipitation, uncertainty analysis of precipitation estimation, statistical data mining and machine learning techniques, hydrological process modeling and data assimilation. In addition to the qualifications, the position requires a Ph.D. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, or other related quantitative fields. The candidate will be responsible for writing reports, research papers, and grant proposals. The prospective scholar will work with Professor Soroosh Sorooshian and his research colleagues at the Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS) http://www.chrs.web.uci.edu.
