Essential Job Duties:
The Research Technician will support and conduct research in the area of weed biology and ecology in agricultural and non-agricultural systems. The research will include molecular biology, whole plant physiology, ecosystem scale, UAV, remote sensing, and precision agriculture techniques. The Research Technician is also responsible for production and maintenance of different crops and weeds under greenhouse and field conditions. The incumbent in the position will be required to use farm equipment, be able to apply pesticides, and operate drones to complete the work.
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Knowledge of agronomy, horticulture and plant biology, and ecology research techniques.
Experience in an academic research setting.
Some field experience working with GPS and GIS is highly desired.
Knowledge of plant growth analysis and community and population dynamics Basic agricultural production experience including farm equipment operation.
Experience with plant DNA extraction and purification.
Basic knowledge of SAS and R statistical software, ARM and STELLA.
Required license or certification:
Unmanned aerial vehicle pilots license or the ability to obtained it within 6 months of hire.
NC Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Valid NC Driver’s License.
Licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.
