Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the department of Health Behavior and Policy. The department is part of the School of Medicine and closely affiliated with Massey Cancer Center. Our mission is to bring together a multidisciplinary faculty to promote research and scholarship that addresses how social, economic, behavioral and policy factors affect health outcomes at the individual and population level.
Qualifications: We seek applications from creative, dynamic individuals who share in our commitment to excellence in research and scholarship in public health and prevention science.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in public health or closely related fields, such as psychology. Applicants should show evidence of research productivity and the potential to obtain external funding.
Research areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to) pediatric cancer prevention and control, obesity/tobacco epidemiology and policy analysis, and behavioral or lifestyle interventions targeted to children and families. Individuals with expertise in mobile/digital health, just-in-time adaptive interventions, or geospatial analysis as applied to cancer prevention and control topics are encouraged to apply. The faculty member will also support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level, including providing support to our PhD programs in Social and Behavioral Sciences and Healthcare Policy and Research. Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Our research identifies the behavioral, social, organizational, and policy factors that affect the health of individuals and populations. We utilize rigorous quantitative and qualitative methods and engage diverse communities to develop and evalua...te programs and policies designed to promote health, improve health care delivery, and reduce health disparities. Our research findings inform the translation of effective programs and policies into practice. We provide training to and promote excellence in the next generation of health behavior and policy practitioners, educators, and scientists.
